BEVERLY HILLS, Calif.–(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)–April 15, 2002NAMIC, the telecommunications industry’s leading advocate for diversity, recognized cable networks including Showtime, CNN and HBO for producing exemplary original, multicultural programming during the 8th Annual NAMIC Vision Awards on Friday, April 12 at the Beverly Hilton.

Also during the awards ceremony, NAMIC presented The North Star Award and The Quasar Award, both honoring individuals and/or companies who have made a contribution to diversity in the entertainment arena. The North Star Award was presented to the children’s network, Nickelodeon and The Quasar Award was given to Eduardo Quezada, anchor, Univision. This year’s title sponsor for the event was AOL Time Warner.

NAMIC was founded in 1980 as the National Association of Minorities in Cable to educate, advocate and empower for the cause of diversity in the telecommunications industry. With its unique focus in the urban marketplace and people of color, NAMIC educates the broadband industry on marketing approaches, programming interests, operations strategies and diversity management.
